Day 1 - 'Willkommen' to the Salzkammergut, the Sound of Music country! Today we will rendezvous at the Residenz Platz in the beautiful city of Salzburg, Austria. A short van ride will take us to the charming lake side village of St. Gilgen, where we will begin our journey. This afternoon, we'll explore the town, situated at the end of the Wolfgang See, and take a thrilling tram ride to the top of the Zwolferhorn, 3000 feet above the lake! This dramatic panorama of the Salzkammergut will allow you to see the spectacular beauty of the region and also where our journey will be taking us for the next week. Tonight we will be staying in St. Gilgen's finest hotel, and have the first of many Austrian feasts.
Day 2 - St. Gilgen to Bad Ischl, 24km (15 miles). After our wonderful buffet breakfast, we'll start out along the shores of the Wolfgang See, stopping to see a very unique arboretum, and then have lunch by the lake in the town of Strobl. Our afternoon ride takes us on beautiful rural backroads along the Ischl River to the town of Bad Ischl. This town is the hub of the region, and is well known for its thermal baths, and as the vacation destination of Austrian royalty of years past. Tonight's hotel overlooks the picturesque Traun River.

Day 3 - Bad Ischl to Hallstatt, 21km (13 miles). Our ride today takes us to Hallstatt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the gem of the region. Our journey will take us through shaded forest paths and quaint villages as we spin towards to breathtaking approach to Hallstatt. Take the afternoon to explore this fairy tale village situated right on the Hallstatter See. There's plenty of shopping and lots to see and do. Our home for the evening is a charming inn situated right on the main square.
Day 4 - Hallstatt to Altaussee, 23km (13.5 miles). After breakfast, you may find it hard to leave the cozy little village of Hallstatt, but, we have much more to see and do! Not too far into our morning ride, we'll visit the amazing Dachstein caves, home to the world's oldest salt mine, and the myth of the "Man Preserved in Salt". Kids will love this! Also, we'll have the opportunity of another wonderful tram ride up to the Hoher Krippenstein, for a spectacular view of the lakes below. Then it's back on the bikes to visit the town of Bad Aussee as we head toward the alpine village of Altaussee, own destination for the evening. Another Austrian feast tops off our great day riding.
Day 5 - Altaussee to St. Wolfgang, 35km (22 miles). Our adventure today leads us along quiet alpine roads and mostly downhill as we head toward St. Wolgang, on the Wolfgang See. This is another story book village perfectly situated on the lake front. This afternoon, enjoy the boutique shopping in the village and walking along the seafront promenade. Catch an awesome sunset as the sun sets below the lake with the alps on either side. Our award winning hotel for the evening is one of the finest in all of Austria.
Day 6 - St. Wolfgang to Mondsee, 24km (15 miles). After breakfast, we'll take a boat journey on the Wolfgang See over to St. Gilgen where we begin our morning ride over to another beautiful lake, the Mondsee. We'll spin past old castles and quaint villages as we wind our way to the far side of the lake to the village of Mondsee. Mondsee is the home to the church used in the wedding scene of the "Sound of Music" motion picture. We'll take a tour of the church, then spend the afternoon exploring this quaint little town situated on the Mondsee.
Day 7 - Mondsee to St. Gilgen. 20km (12 miles). In the morning, we'll complete the loop around the Mondsee as we finish our grand tour of the "Sound of Music" country. Our last night will once again be spent in everybody's favorite village of St. Gilgen. We'll have a special farewell dinner and reflect back on all that we have seen and done this amazing week in the Salzkammergut!!
Day 8 - After breakfast, we would be happy to take you to either the train station or the airport in Salzburg. We'll say 'auf wiedersehen', and have a pleasant journey home.
