Itinerary
Day 1 - Florence to Castellina. We'll rendezvous at the Piazzale Michelangelo around 10:00 a.m. to begin our ride through the countryside of Chianti. As we leave Florence, we are quickly into the Tuscan countryside. Our trail takes us past olive orchards, villas lined with cypress trees, and of course the vineyards of Chianti. Our route to Castellina will take us through the charming villages of Impruneta, Greve, and Panzano. Our accommodation this evening is a wonderful restored albergo that actually dates back 1000 years!! Dinner this evening will be in the town of Castellina at a very lively pizzeria!!
A great start to a great week.
Day 2 - Castellina to San Gimignano, After breakfast, we'll head west to the medieval town of San Gimignano. Our ride this morning is an incredible 20km downhill run!! This is one of the best downhills on the planet! Watch your speed so you don't miss the awesome views towards Siena and San Gimignano. Once at the bottom of the descent it's just a quick spin across the valley and then a short climb up to San Gimignano. Our hotel for the evening is situated directly in the main piazza. Dinner this evening will be in their restaurant overlooking the valley below. Wander the streets at night like a local, after the tourists have left for the day.

Day 3 -San Gimignano to Siena, Today's ride will take us past the fortress towns of Colle di val d'Elsa, and Monteriggioni. We'll stop for lunch in Monteriggioni before heading on to Siena. The scenery is spectacular as we make our way to Siena, Tuscany's second biggest city, and one of the most beautiful in all of Italy! This evening we'll stay at a four star villa, and dine near the Piazza del Campo in Siena.
Day 4 - Siena to Pienza. We say arrivederci to Siena and head southeast towards Asciano, stopping shortly thereafter at the Abbazia di Monte Oliveto Maggiore. Built in 1313, the abbey is home to many High Renaissance frescoes. Our road to Pienza takes us past fields of sunflowers and poppies. This is rural Tuscany at its best. We arrive in the perfect Renaissance town of Pienza in the afternoon, in time to taste what this town is famous for: wines, honey, and pecorino cheese.
Day 5 - Pienza to Cortona. The road from Pienza to Montepulciano is one of the prettiest in all of Tuscany, and we'll stop for many photos. As we travel across the Val di Chiana, our destination is the hilltop Etruscan town of Cortona. Cortona, most recently made famous in the movie 'Under the Tuscan Sun' is a wonderful collection of stony buildings, steep streets, and twisty cobblestone lanes. Our hotel for the evening is situated directly on one of the beautiful piazzas.
Day 6 - Cortona to Monte San Savino. A welcomed short ride today takes us through the towns of Foiano, and Lucignano, on our way to Monte San Savino. No tour of Tuscany would be complete without an overnight stay at a farmhouse. Our fully restored villa, complete with pool will be our home for the rest of the day. We will have plenty of time to relax by the pool with a glass of wine, or visit the local villages.
Day 8 - Monte San Savino to Lecchi, As we leave the Val di Chiana, we enter Chianti again from the south. On the way to Lecchi, we have a challenging but very rewarding uphill out of Monte San Savino, then miles and miles of downhill as we spin towards Lecchi. Tonight's accommodation is and incredible XVth century restored mill, complete with pool and spa. This afternoon we'll picnic by the pool with wine and cheese, preparing us for another Tuscan feast at our hotel's restaurant.
Day 8 - After our breakfast at the villa, we say 'arrivederci' and congratulations. You are now an expert on Tuscany!! Please advise us of your post tour plans. We can take you back into Florence, to the airport or train station; just let us know.
