2008 Dordogne Valley Bicycle Tours begin on the following dates:
June 29th, July 8th, July 17th, July 26th
Itinerary
Day 1 - This adventure starts in the charming little village of les Eyzies, the world capital of prehistoric man. We will visit the nearby caves of 'Font de Gaume' and 'Combarelles' to see for ourselves the cave drawings of prehistoric man. Our hotel is our meeting place and the location of our first of many fabulous French meals. We suggest the best way to arrive to les Eyzies is by train, either from Bordeaux, or Paris. We will gladly work out the details of your train journey with you and greet you at the train station.
Day 2 - les Eyzies to Domme. After our 'petit dejeuner', we will adjust our bikes, and then we're off for a wonderful ride next to the Vezere River, down to Limeuil, where the Vezere meets the Dordogne. We then head east along the Dordogne, through this fairy tale land and stop for lunch near Beynac. In the afternoon, we will visit the medieval castle of Castelnaud before arriving at our destination of Domme. Domme, a wonderful bastide hilltop town is filled with French charm, and has awesome panoramas. Our hotel overlooks the entire valley! It's simply breathtaking, overlooking an entire kingdom of the Perigord Noir.

Day 3 - Domme to Sarlat. Our distance today is not great, but the scenery and the beautiful little villages will more than occupy our time. We will also visit the sinister looking fortress of Beynac on our way to Sarlat, where we are staying at a fully restored hunting lodge that has been turned into a charming country inn. Dinner tonight is in the stone walled dining room of the lodge. The ambience and the food are spectacular!
Day 4 - Sarlat. Today we have a leisurely ride in the morning, then an afternoon canoe trip on the Dordogne. No trip to this region would be complete without this adventure. We'll canoe past the quaint little villages and admire the medieval castles dominating the hilltops. Bring your bathing suit, just in case:) Late afternoon we can sit by the pool back at the hotel and have wine and cheese before another 'magnifique' dinner in the dining room at the lodge.
Day 5 - Sarlat to Loubressac. Today we set out along the Dordogne to visit the 'Grottes de Lecave', one of the most famous prehistoric caves in all of France. After our visit to the cave, we ride through some of the most beautiful little villages you can possibly imagine, on our way to Loubressac. In my opinion, the epitome of a charming French village. Set on a hilltop, Loubressac has the most wonderful 360 degree view of the surrounding valleys. 'Tres Joli'!!
Day 6 - Loubressac to Gramat. After our breakfast, we visit the most unusual sight of the 'Gouffre de Padirac'. This is a real life underground river that we will take a boat ride on through the caverns. Kids love this, because it's like a trip to Disneyland on the 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. After our tour there, we're off to spend the night in a real French castle, dating back to the early Middle ages. You simply won't believe where you are as you stroll the castle grounds. Tonight's dinner is an awesome display of French cuisine. It's one of those dinners you will remember the rest of your life!
Day 7 - Gramat to Souillac. This morning we visit the amazing village of Rocamadour. Carved into a cliff, this medieval setting is captivating and enchanting. We'll wander through the town, then hike up to the top of the cliff to experience the awesome view, and to walk the ramparts of the fortress that sits on the edge of the cliff. Very medieval! Our afternoon ride takes us back down to the river to the town of Souillac, where we are spending the night at a wonderful riverside auberge.
Day 8 - Souillac to les Eyzies. Today we journey back along the majestic Dordogne, to our home village of les Eyzies. We'll take our time and possibly stop for some wine and cheese, and maybe a little fois gras. Tonight we have another spectacular dinner, typical of the Perigord region, and reminisce about all that we have seen and done in the last week. After this tour you will have some serious bragging rights!
Day 9 - We will happily take you to the train station for your journey back, and say 'au revoir et a bientot'!! You are now an expert on the Dordogne region and the Perigord noir!
